Marine Tank (salt water) cloudy water question.?

by Admin on May 5, 2010

We recently bought a HUGE tank for our home. The guy at the pet store recommended crushed coral to be used as sultrate [for the floor of the tank]

We actually wanted WHITE sand but it wasn’t available anywhere.

We rinsed the crushed coral as instructed and put it into our tank… the WHOLE TANK got very cloudy so we waited a day assuming everything would settle… that didn’t happen.

then TODAY we removed the water, removed the crushed coral and refilled it. We’re looking to buy sand now – HOWEVER, the filter wasn’t rinsed and the water got cloudy again when we turned it on AHAHAHAHAHHA –

WHAT can we do or buy to make the water clear, we already bought a "seoClone 150" skimmer.. which doesn’t seem to be doing anything but making a neat tornado in the tube…

ANY SUGGESTIONS would be appreciated…

Is this your first time setting up a salt tank? Did you have a freshwater tank before? Do you have a clue what you are doing or not? Because if you dont, you really should go talk to someone SMART at the fish store. Lots of dummies at fish stores that act like they know everything, yet dont really have a clue.
Very very important that you get down some critical basics before adding ANY FISH! Saltfish cost too much to just take home and kill.
-The salt clouds tanks
-New setups are cloudy usually the first week or so until the biological filtration is established.
-The protien skimmer isnt really needed until you start feeding fish. (fish food has protiens in it)
Anyway, LEARN LEARN LEARN first. Good luck.

you need to buy a water clairifier, its a liquid chemical make sure!!!!!!its for saltwater tanks use it in the pm an it will be clear in am .the water looks cloudy because of the corral dust this will be clumped together an cleaned by your filter
